Application hangs viewing file properties in Open box due to damaged file.
Cause:
The application is trying to access the properties of a damaged file or a file in the same folder as a damaged file.
Solution:
Determine which file is damaged and remove it from that folder.
NOTE: Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem.
1) Open 'Windows Explorer'. (The Exploring window appears.)
2) Create a temporary folder NOT in the folder containing the damaged file:
a) Click in another folder.
b) Select the 'File' menu and select 'New'. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Folder' from the 'New' submenu. (A folder is added.)
d) Type the name of the temporary folder over the highlighted words 'New Folder'.

3) Move all files in the folder containing the damaged file to the temporary folder:
a) Select all of the files in the folder containing the damaged file.

NOTE: To select more than one file, press and hold down SHIFT while using the arrow keys to select the files.
b) Position the cursor inside over the selection.
c) Press and hold down the mouse button, and drag the selection onto the folder just created.
d) Release the mouse button. (The selected files are moved to the new directory.)
4) Move one file back to the original (source) folder (now empty):
a) Select a file in the new directory.
b) Press and hold down the mouse button, and drag the file onto the folder where the file was originally located.
c) Release the mouse button. (The file is moved.)
5) Open or return to the desired Office 95 application.
6) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open...'. (The Open dialog box appears.)
7) Try to view the properties again:
a) Select the file moved in step 4).
b) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Properties.' (If the application hangs, that file is the damaged file.)
8) If the application does not hang, repeat steps 4) through 7) until the damaged file is found.
9) Remove the damaged file from the folder:
a) Open or return to 'Windows Explorer'. (The Exploring window appears.)
b) Select the damaged file.
c) Press and hold down the mouse button, and drag the file onto the new folder created in step 2).
d) Release the mouse button. (The damaged file is moved into the new folder.)
10) Return the remaining files to the folder:
a) In the new folder, select all the files that have not been moved back to the original folder EXCEPT the damaged file moved in step 10).
b) Position the cursor over a section of the selected files.
c) Press and hold down the mouse button, and drag the selected files onto the original folder.
d) Release the mouse button. (The files are returned to their original folder, and the damaged file remains in the folder created in step 2).)
